The star has handed over the entirety of his £25k award cash to the MVT, which works to protect the United Kingdom's independent concert spaces.

The star was presented with the prize on October 16 as his new release People Watching was named the top album of the last 12 months.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the crucial part grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the gigs I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," remarked Sam Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – approximately 16% of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, major artists like Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by adding a small levy to their ticket costs, which supports smaller concert halls.

He also joined in, collecting over £100k on his recent tour to support 38 local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money assisted venues that were dealing with possible closure due to issues caused by flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations were granted funding support in upgrading amenities and sound and lighting systems that helped artists and audiences.

"The notion that funds from shows in big venues supports the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just sensible," the star has commented.

Fender is far from the only musician to give his honor prize money to worthy causes.

In the band received the trophy in 1996 for their release the album, frontman Jarvis Cocker declared that the act would contribute their cash to the non-profit War Child.

In 2002, artist Ms Dynamite divided her bounty among a few organizations, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I donated a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked new equipment," she shared with the media.

Two years ago, they donated their prize money to the community center that supported their act, in addition to other local music groups.

Also 1994 winners the group contributed their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was diagnosed the condition.

"The victory was ample," remarked vocalist the singer. "The money was the extra but we could do without the bonus, because we had the honor. So our winning affected another person's life."

Last week, the MVT announced it had rescued two small stages in the South East, by transferring them to local control.

The Joiners in Southampton and the other in that location were purchased under the public acquisition initiative, which is backed by the arts council and music fans who acquire "stakes" in the properties.
