The offspring of Zimbabwe's ex-leader Robert Mugabe has been presented in a Harare court facing drug possession.

The younger Mugabe, thirty-three, was detained on midweek while driving the wrong way down a one-way street, as per legal filings. Law enforcement examined a black sling bag he was carrying and reportedly found two small sachets of marijuana.

Following the occurrence, authorities stated in a release that five individuals in a "network associated with him" were also arrested.

The defendant's lawyer indicated they plan to deny the charges and disputed the factual claims made by the police.

Ashiel Mugiya asserted the drugs were found from a car that had additional passengers, and that police had located 0.02g of cannabis—whereas the official documentation states police recovered 2g, with a street value of thirty dollars (twenty-two pounds).

The accused wore athletic pants and a crimson hat while using his mobile as he was escorted into the magistrates court on the following day. He was surrounded by people and was without restraints.

The court remanded the defendant in custody awaiting a decision on release on the end of the week.

Regarding the alleged syndicate members they detained, law enforcement stated they discovered 25 sachets of marijuana and several stimulant tablets.

Police said they will proceed with the inquiry.

This is hardly Mr Mugabe's first brush with the legal system. In the previous year, the younger offspring of the former president and his surviving spouse his mother was detained over allegations he vandalized items and spat on a police officer at a gathering in the capital.

He was freed after agreeing to an out-of-court settlement with the accuser, who was a friend of his.

Former President Mugabe Sr passed away in recent years at the age of ninety-five, two years after being compelled to step down after nearly four decades in charge of the Zimbabwean country.

He spearheaded the fight in opposition to in the seventies versus the colonial regime of what was formerly known as the previous administration—but he was subsequently alleged of employing force to win elections and destroying the nation's economy.

The former president was succeeded by his one-time ally Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Ties between the incumbent and the former first family had been fraught after they accused the sitting leader of deceiving Zimbabwe's long-time leader.

His widow had harbored ambitions of replacing her husband but was sidelined by the current administration's allies.

Nonetheless, the younger Mugabe has subsequently made amends with the president, attending a rally in 2022 where he was publicly welcomed into the governing political faction.
