'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith resumes battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he reminisces about the thrilling closing stages of his team's epic comeback victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles amid the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful effort from outside the box, and his teammate promptly hammered in the loose ball before charging toward the home end to celebrate, with fans mobbing the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory capped an incredible recovery given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 midway through the latter period. During the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. He shared, "There was a supporter shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win earned a fourth-round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith came close against at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with a teammate's volley from about 45 yards going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. Many argued that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that range," says Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right flank after Orient changed formation. That meant competing with City's winger, with whom he swapped shirts, and the player was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way the underdogs approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the basics and basic skills, they can just execute repeatedly," Galbraith says. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they are adept at control and slow down a game. You can think you're all right and then abruptly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It takes a tough attitude and attention just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to bring him in in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has quickly done the same in his new home. At the London club he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at a League One side from Old Trafford. Then came a temporary move at League Two the Manchester club, before he departed Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without real physicality. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

He has shown that development for club and country, performing well for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including two matches fixtures against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he controls possession and his eye for a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

This marks quite the ride for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside the capital, who used to see his parent, Stuart, also a engine room operator, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

His sole appearance for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a European competition trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was closed owing to the weather of freezing cold. "It was a long trip and it was freezing," he comments, grinning. "The week before, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

How hard was it to leave United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it got to the point where I thought I needed to go my own route, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

New Environment

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a small coach driven by team personnel, the drivers, which shuttles players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself a teammate, Ronald, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to socialize with the guys but I'm aiming to be the following person out of the minibus and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Fan Interactions

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on public transport after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
