Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report initial examinations suggest the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior representative commented the attack rendered him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
